A culturally significant site to the Wathaurong people would be integral to the event as a means to facilitate discussion and further understanding about issues facing Indigenous peoples today. We have identified the old Fyansford Paper Mills as the site for our event in 2017 – situated on the Barwon River above Buckley’s Falls, the incredible story of William Buckley is a tremendous example of a person crossing cultures and embracing a foreign world view. The area is also culturally significant to the Wathaurong people as a ceremonial ground.

The Paper Mills is developing as majorly significant in western culture as an arts hub and location for local producers and event spaces. With such creativity and eclectic offerings, this site is set to be a cultural hub of Geelong’s future.

Our goal for the first event is to utilise multiple areas at the Paper Mills with breakout areas, art exhibitions and surprises around each and every corner. We envisage utilising the Great Hall, Provenance Winery, Door Café, Band Room and all areas intersecting for patron flow and amenities.

Is there public transport to the venue?

No there is not public transport to the Old Papermills. All ticket holders will need to arrange their own travel to and from the venue.

Will it be possible to get a taxi?

Yes Fyansford is about 10 minutes in to the Geelong CBD and Geelong station. Taxi’s are a travel option to and from the venue.

How do I get there from Geelong CBD?

11 minutes (5.6km)
1. From the Central Business District – get on to Aberdeen St
2. Continue along Aberdeen / Hamilton Hwy – B140 (4.3km)
3. Turn left onto Lower Paper Mills Rd

How do I get there from Melbourne?

1 h 4 min (78,7km)
1. Get on M! in Southbank from Queen St and Power St (9 min – 2.1km)
2. Follow M1 to Fyansford. Take the exit for B140 from M1 (49 min – 75.1km)
3. Continue on Hamilton Hwy/B140. (2 min – 1.4km)
4. Drive to Lower Paper Mills Rd (Turn right)

Is there seating? Should I bring a chair?

There will be plastic seats and tables around the food area. This seating is limited and can’t be moved from that area. If you want to guarantee a seat to sit down on then bring your own fold up chair.

Where will I park?

Enter via Lower Papermills Road. Once you get closer to the site it will become a one-way road. You will be directed to a drop off zone if you wish to drop people off (strictly 1 min) and then directed to the parking area. This area will fill up quickly and once this space is filled cars will then you will need to park along Upper Papermills. Road. Geelong Rotary, great sponsors of the Marrma’ Rom Two Worlds Foundation, will be on site directing the parking.

If it’s raining will everything be undercover?

The site is set up for inside and outside entertainment. We are remaining positive that the sun will be shining, however if it is wet the festival will move the entertainment to an inside venue. As it is now, most of the entertainment is planned for indoors anyway. There will only be a few activities that will be impacted by inclement weather.

Prepare for very cold weather

It is only the 2nd day of Spring so the weather is going to be cold, and perhaps a few showers. Please wear appropriate clothing especially if you are staying until 10.00pm. It will be chilly so please wear warm clothes and maybe even bring a blanket.

Will there be a merchandise tent or anything available to purchase?

Yes there will be a few things you can spend your money on.

  • There is not a merchandise tent open for the whole day, however musicians have been invited to sell merchandise directly after their performance.
  • There is an art exhibition with pieces of artwork for sale. A percentage of the sales will be a donation to the Marrma’ Rom Two Worlds Foundation.
  • There will be food and drinks available for sale.
Can I bring my own food and drinks?

No you can’t. It is not a BYO event.

There is food available and bars to buy alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

BAGS WILL BE CHECKED BY SECURITY AT THE GATE.

Is there an ATM at the venue?

Yes there will be an ATM at the venue.

Is this a kid friendly event?

Yes it is very much a kid friendly event. There will be activities for kids from 1.00-5.00pm. Adults need to keep in mind it is a licensed event and children must be accompanied at all times.

Do I need to pay for children?

Children under 12 are free. Children from 13-17 years can purchase a concession ticket for $15.00 but must be accompanied by an adult, not dropped at the gate.

Identification will be required for concession tickets and also for purchasing alcohol.

Do I need to bring my printed ticket?

Yes you do need to bring your printed ticket. It will be scanned to gain entry.

What happens if I’ve lost my ticket?

NO TICKET, NO ENTRY, NO EXCEPTIONS

Any patron that has forgotten or lost their tickets must pay to gain entry.

You can fill out a claim form for a refund to follow up after the event if you have already purchased a ticket, but must have a valid ticket or pay to gain access.
